David Bowie (1967)Bowie's humble beginnings ... It's far from being perfect, but it's mostly a quirky delight! Overall Album Score: 7.7 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.0

The Man Who Sold the World (1971)Um.................... Bowie's attempt at hardening his sound didn't work very well. Never mind the new guitarist. Overall Album Score: 7.0 out of 10 Average Song Score: 7.5

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars (1972)Bowie's famed concept album is one of the greatest things ever. Sure, that's a subjective statement, but I believe this with all of my heart. Overall Album Score: 9.8 out of 10 Average Song Score: 9.8

Aladdin Sane (1973)The always compelling David Bowie doesn't clone his previous album. He does something different. It's not quite as good, but it's very enjoyable. Overall Album Score: 8.7 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.6

Pin-Ups (1973)This is an album full of sloppy covers. It's fun, but ... why? Overall Album Score: 7.9 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.3

Diamond Dogs (1974)And now we get this strange, dark concept album of sorts. I can't say I like these songs any more than I like the songs from Aladdin Sane ... but I took to this album easier than I took to Aladdin Sane. When it's all said and done, this is yet another Bowie classic. It ought to appeal to the sinister, grimey side of us all. Overall Album Score: 8.6 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.4

Young Americans (1975)Hey! Wha- Happened?!!!! PHILLY SOUL???? ............... Bowie, You weird. This is one of the most famous missteps in classic rock. But, it was only a brief affair, kinda like my affair with Christina Applegate was. Overall Album Score: 6.4 out of 10 Average Song Score: 7.1

Station to Station (1976)Ooooooooooooooooooo! Hey! If you combine this "soul" stuff with Kraftwerk-esque electronica, you get something cool, doncha? Bowie's most consistent effort, yet! Overall Album Score: 9.2 out of 10 Average Song Score: 9.6

Low (1977)Luh-luh-luh-luh. Is it the world's first classic synth-pop album that I doth hear? Wagreeagergeeenengg? Who the fruu is Brian Eno? Overall Album Score: 9.2 out of 10 Average Song Score: 9.0

Heroes (1977)Heck! If Bowie and Eno can make something as wonderful as this, then they're both my heroes! The Bowie/Eno teams brings the synth-pop from Low to breathtaking heights. Overall Album Score: 9.5 out of 10 Average Song Score: 9.5

Lodger (1979)Instead of making an even more gradiose Kraut-rock album, they make this weird punk thing. But it has some great songs in it, so who am I to complain? Yet anudder Bowie classic. Overall Album Score: 8.2 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.2

Scary Monsters (1980)David Bowie decides to take a stab at new wave and does a basic summation of his career in the process. Another great Bowie album. Overall Album Score: 9.0 out of 10 Average Song Score: 9.0

Let's Dance (1983)Introducing David Bowie's latest pop incarnation: the bleach-haired 80's pop idol! Ehh... I'm not too big of a fan of it, either, but at least we get "China Girl" out of the deal. That's all that really matters. Overall Album Score: 7.7 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.1

Tonight (1984)David Bowie turns blue ... Yes. I miss that old buggar, too. (But I admit that I love the alien. And Blue Jean.) Whatever happened to that mullet? Overall Album Score: 6.3 out of 10 Average Song Score: 6.9

Absolute Beginners (1985)This is a soundtrack that David Bowie was slightly involved on ... Forget that it's among the David Bowie albums. Overall Album Score: 8.7 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.7

Labyrinth (1986)This is a soundtrack that David Bowie was more-than-a-little-bit-involved-with! It might have shortcommings, but "As the World Falls Down" completely makes this. And, if you don't like that song, frankly, you can kiss by big fat butt. Overall Album Score: 8.1 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.2

Never Let Me Down (1987)Whoops! HEY! This is a David Bowie solo album (that had nothing to do with a film soundtrack) and it absolutely BLOWS!! ... Okay, it's really not that bad, but still. It blows. Overall Album Score: 6.8 out of 10 Average Song Score: 7.3

Tin Machine (1989)Is this a machine that makes tin or a "machine" that is made out of tin? ... Hmmmm ... Anyways, this is where David Bowie decides to form a band, and he does something that he hadn't done since 1980: write all-in-all cool music. Overall Album Score: 8.2 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.0

Tin Machine II (1991)The Tin Machine is back for more BLOOOOODDDD!!! ... Not a much worse than the last one, I say, but it shows that they're running out of steam. And Bowie was certainly ready to quit. Overall Album Score: 8.0 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.1

Outside (1995)A peculiar concept album that's a bit too lengthy, but it's saved by a good handful of solid songs! Overall Album Score: 8.0 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.0

Earthling (1997)Oh, sh-- Overall Album Score: 5.8 out of 10 Average Song Score: 6.4

Hours (1999)Hmmm ... No more NIN ... Not too much grunge ... No Jennifer Lopez-esque pop crap ... Good songwriting ... Songs kick butt in their own special way ... The album's nowhere near perfect, but it's awesome ... Hmmmm ... BOWIE'S BACK!!! Overall Album Score: 8.2 out of 10 Average Song Score: 8.5

Heathen (2002)This confirms what I've always suspected about David Bowie. He's freaking awesome!! Overall Album Score: 9.9 out of 10 Average Song Score: 9.7

Reality (2003)A weaker follow-up to Heathen, to be sure, but this is still David Bowie riding high on his comeback mode ... This song contains some excellent pop-rock tunes (and some great concert songs, too) ... Overall Album Score: 9.0 out of 10 Average Song Score: 9.0

Reality Concert Review: Rosemont, Illinois (Jan. 14, 2004)I had nothing better to do, so I dropped everything and travelled to a Chicago suburb and watched an aging British dude don a suspicious-looking belt, jump all around the stage, and sing some of his old songs. Overall Concert Score: Quite Excellent! Link to the full review:
Reality Concert Review: Kansas City, Missouri (May 10, 2004)Four months later, I still had nothing better to do. So I went to see David Bowie again. (Fortunately, he was a little bit closer this time.) Overall Concert Score: Still Quite Excellent! Link to the full review:
myspike89000@yahoo.com.au (Melissa Muddyman) received Sept. 20, 2004 David Bowie is a great person with a beautifal voice, i love his songs but unfortunetly have only 13 of his albums. i loved his movie Labyrinth and id like to see his other movie's unfortunetly i can't buy them untill i get a credit card but the wait is worth wile. I love David Bowie he's great and id like to meat him someday, like he could fly in my window as an owl in the Labyrinth and when he askes me to stay with him i would instead of killing his dreams and his wold. If any one hates David Bowie i hate them. Because im only 16 i don't know anyone my age who likes him or even know's him so i can't shear my thorts on him. David is soooo cute and i think he's cool. loreleisealgirlneo@yahoo.com (Lorelei Koory) received Feb. 5, 2006 Do you know how hard it is to find someone under the age of thirty that likes David Bowie? I cried when I saw your reviews. I thought that I was alone in my little 13 year old world. I'm the only person who knew who David Bowie was in my entire middle school except for my 65 year old English teacher. |
